Biography Summary

I started road cycling in 1984 living in Roswell, GA at the age of 14.  I first joined USA Cycling in 1985 and raced as a junior on the road and track moving up to Category 3 in both.  Racing in the southeast as a junior in the 80’s, my season consisted mainly of criteriums in Georgia and Florida.  Most of our good road races were events such as State Championships at Fort Gordon and Junior Worlds Trials Events.    Of course Athens Twilight was a big event as well.  In addition, I raced the Friday night omniums at DLV as well as Junior Track Worlds Trials in Indianapolis.  Though I qualified for Track Nationals my last year as a junior, I broke my collarbone racing the week before the event.

Junior Highlights:

Georgia State Points Race Championships – 1st

Georgia State Sprint Championships – 3rd

Georgia State Pursuit Championships – 3rd

Athens Twilight amateur final – 7th

I took a couple of years off road racing when I first started college, but was brought back in by collegiate cycling.   I rode mountain bikes as a junior, however this was the time I started racing mountain bikes as well.  Racing for Georgia State University, I finished my Senior Year ranked 3rd in the SEC for road racing and qualified as an individual for Nationals.

Georgia State University Time Trial – 1st

University of Georgia Road Race – 1st

After College I focused on racing both mountain bike and road bike at the national Level.  I worked full time and raced both until 1998 when I started racing full time.  On the mountain bike I focused on AMBC Races in the Southeast as well as NORBA Nationals on the east coast.  On the road I cut my teeth on races like Tour de Toona and Elite Nationals.  Without the same opportunities for pro teams back then, I also raced composite teams to get into as many UCI stage races as I could.   I turned pro in 1999 with a UCI pro team and would go back and forth between Pro and Elite over the following 9 years until I was hit by a truck while on a training ride in 2008.

Specialized Southern Cup – 1st
