The 2009 Sunny King Criterium was a wash-out contributing to crashes and causing our team to leave the race midday.  The Junior 10-14 race was early enough to avoid the constant downpours that occurred throughout most of the day.  The Sunny King Junior races were Lance Armstrong Junior Olympic Race Series (LAJORS); hence, scoring was separated by gender and ages groups (10-12, 13-14, 15-16,and 17-18).

Philip O'Donnell attacked early in the Juniors 10-14 race and soloed to victory.  Fletcher Lydick had one of his best races as he placed third.  Fletcher nearly captured Robert Marier, Fulton Flyers, at the finish line in the field sprint.

Hunter Lydick and Ethan Zehr picked up LAJORS medals in the Juniors 15-18 race.  Hunter placed second and Ethan placed third among Junior Men's 17-18.

  • Hunter Lydick, 2nd place Junior Men's 17-18

Coach Kelli Crashes in the Women's Cat. 3/4 Race

Coach Kelli Rogan's bike slipped out from under her due to the water in turn two with five laps remaining in the Women's Cat. 3/4 race.  Although she was able to walk back towards our tent, she sustained a bump to her head and a cracked helmet.  As a precaution, Coach Kelli was taken to a local hospital in Anniston, where she was examined and released.  Before she left, Coach Kelli declared that we suspend all further racing for our Juniors for the rest of the day.

On a positive note... Shoshana Lutch placed third and Nina Gummadi placed fourth in the Women's Category 4 classification of the same race.  Each Junior won cash for their placing.
